I've been doing some animation work for my Dad in an effort to help visualize some of the concepts in his latest physics book as yet untitled. When he asked me to create an animation for the segment on the classic double slit experiment it got me thinking and you know what a big mistake that can be. I've had this interest interest in physics ever since he started taking me to sit in on some of his lectures or when he was showing some films to his class. Although I was flunking out of all my math classes the science really fascinated me and I have always insisted on figuring out how or why something work the way they do. The double slit has given rise to lots of different theories and this is just my take on the parallel universe theory that Hugh Everett came up with to explain it. I have always had a problem with the concept of our universe going on for infinity with no center yet it had somehow started from a single point and expanded from that so instead of working on the animation to visualize something I can't fully explain I went off into this tangent:
From the beginning now. Well not exactly the beginning but for one instant all of the particles in a universe are all in the same point in space and time. Ok, that's not it either.....Let's say....a particle, maybe a photon is traveling through space time, well clicking through the steps of what we call time, Plank time, the smallest calculate able segment we understand. At any give step this photon can go in any direction in any dimension. We expect a straight line because we see nothing to change it but what we don't “SEE” is that space is just a fraction of this bubbling soup with the bubble boundaries forming waves of fields emanating from all of the other possible spaces that occupy nothingness.
OK, Lets try that again. As this photon takes a step it is affected by these other unseen possible trajectories and it affects them as well by creating those other possibilities. Each of those other possibilities actually happen but those are other universes created BY the very possibility of them happening. As each new possible universe is created it in turn sends the photon to the next step which creates even more possibilities. The universes are all the same up to the spot in time and space that they branch. Stuff like dark matter and dark energy are fields that stay connected after the universes branch off.
Now consider if those steps are just the peaks of waves on an ocean to us but as that wave is moving through multi dimensions, compared to us another dimension may experience their step in the valley of the wave or what we call out of phase with our universe. Now consider if this ocean is made up of lots of different kinds of water all existing in the same sea with some types affecting some phases of the universe but not others or maybe some types of the water affect ALL the the different universes keeping them interacting with each other binding it all together while some types of the water keep the other different types apart and only affect individual phases separately.
Next part, size and time. What if all the things that make up the photons or any other particles are entire universes popping in and out of existence on the tiniest of scales? For each time all of the different types of waves align in OUR universe that harmony creates what we call reality. As our reality goes through the entire action of all the actions and reactions till all the interactions play out and expand and evaporate, till the end of our universes life time, all of that is just one step or peak of one part of a wave of one type of a water that makes up this multi verse/ocean. If there are a finite number of different types of this water then the different types of waves will from time to time sync up creating harmonies that repeat over and over. The harmonies are the boundaries of the largest scales of the universes to the smallest constituents that the universe is made of. Those boundaries are the only thing that is infinite, that is to say There are a finite number of constituents and a finite number of ways they can interact and a finite number of possible harmonies but they all repeat to infinity in time and scale.
But how did this all happen? Where did it all....begin? Consider the relation between 0 and 1 or 0 and infinity or just nothing and something. For there to be nothing does the need to be something to compare it to? If so then that would mean there is always something or never nothing. Could the whole of the universe be driven by this paradox? For nothing must create something to prove it is not,... but then something takes over and becomes everything and spoils the whole thing. Eventually everything fills all of something till there is no more nothing to compare itself to. Expanding to fill this everything so much that it is eventually overpowered by good old nothing again. And the beat goes on
On the big end of the scale: Lets go back to that expanding till everything evaporates. Well it doesn't exactly just evaporate but as everything spreads out and all the particles get further and further apart all of the waves of the different types of what we are calling water, all begin to stretch out and eventually begin to ripple at the same rate and line up all of the peaks. As our universe bubble reaches that size it crosses a boundary into the next level of existence and the last type of wave lines up with all of the rest and that is when all of the mass and energy of the big bang is released again but from our earlier point of view ,that from inside the bubble, it is taking a step to the next larger size scale but it is actually just resetting the whole process. In the past we thought that the big bang expanded the universe like and explosion and that eventually all of the matter would lose momentum and reverse and collapse into the big crunch. After several studies of distant galaxies we discovered that it seemed to be picking up speed . Now from what I've read from my Dad and books like “The Particle Garden” as well as several Nova specials, all of what we can study from the whole sky survey and the microwave background radiation, all of that data is from the earliest points in time after OUR big bang, it tells us the furthest we can see back is just a few instances after all the universe came into this being, it had started all from a single point and as it expanded it went through several stages where at first all of the forces were one and it was all a quark fog because things were so tightly packed the heat prevented things like atoms to form.
A few thoughts on how to keep infinity infinite. If the workings of the universe were easy enough for us mere mortals to figure out than the possibility of us tinkering with it would inevitably result in us doing some sort of change which would break the chain or loop of that very infinity. So in the realm of all possibilities those calculations cannot happen. To make that impossible the number of steps required to do those calculations must be greater than the number of time steps in the existence in our universe. So I'm guessing that there maybe a wave frequency for every prime number and it is only when all of those frequencies sync up and repeat and maybe that equals the final last digit of pi. I really like pumpkin pie the best.......
Now a few thoughts about god and us.....lets say there is a god and he/she/or it created all of this for some reason and in order to keep track of it all god needed to split into all of these different ways to look at it and to analyze it to contemplate and justify it, a sort of way to argue out the details of the conciseness. The seat of consciousness must somehow be connected to the central god via something like quantum entanglement(god's Internet). That's where we come in. All possibilities need to considered and tested so all types of interactions with this universe thing need to be tested, selflessness vs selfishness, bravery vs fear and pain vs pleasure. We are all part of god testing different ways to see what will keep repeating the whole concept.
Well that's it for tonight, I'll have to get back to that animation tomorrow night and try not to figure out how or why it works that way or I'll risk ending up redecorating my house like Russel Crow's character John Forbes Nash in "A Beautiful Mind". Oh, it's bound to happen sometime.......
Oh, one more last thing. There is no real reason that God and Darwin can't both be the same. Evolution is just God's way of baking the cake we call life. It all boils down to the way SOME POEPLE interpret the many times translated version of the bible. people often use the term "back in the day" to refer to a period of time when things relatively remained the same and when a bunch of people translated this "word of god" they had no possible concept of the millions of years it took to go through all of the phases of creating matter so in Genesis, the words "in the beginning" and "on the second day" really refer to the phases. And most of what science tells us, is that back at that point time itself really was different as well as the FACT that in the beginning there was no planet earth rotating with a sun rising to give a reference to any sort of day anyway so the whole idea that all of this was created in 6 modern "days" is a really big waste of time to argue about......So quit wasting all of this time trying to discount a perfectly good theory just because of some misconception about what a bunch of guys wrote down way to long ago to be taken as exactly the word of god! If you want to get god back in the schools literature is a much better path to take.
Consider a possible backlash when scientist want to insert science into the church, I think it would go something like this:
For the "Agent so cared for the planet we call earth that he,she or it, donated his, hers or its, only physical human representative, so that who ever proved or confirmed the existence of him shall not succumb to entropy but be given an infinite warranty on all part, labor and software upgrades"
